My name is Dr. Robert LeWayne Johnson. I am running for Florida State House of Representative, HD46, for the seat that State Representative Kristen Arrington is vacating. Did you know, HD46 has been represented by a Democrat in the House for the last 8 years? Well, with your help, this year, we are going to repeat history. I’m not a career politician – not even close. I grew up in a small rural town where my family lived as a sharecropper on a cotton plantation and relied on government assistance to get by. With determination and hard work, I graduated with honors from my high school. I earned four Masters degrees - with honors from Webster University (MA), University of Indianapolis (MBA), St Thomas University School of Law (LLM) and, Walden University (MA), a JD from Barry University School of Law and, a Ph.D. in Public Policy and Administration from Walden University (Summa Cum Laude). I’ve earned a bronze star in combat from the Gulf War I, 2 Meritorious Service Medals (MSM), 5 Army Commendation Medals, 6 Army Achievement Medals and, 2 Global War on Terrorism Medals. I’ve worked in various roles in the U.S. Federal Government for 38 years and I am currently the founder and CEO of the Florida Coalition to Prevent Veteran Homelessness, Inc.: focused on eliminating Veterans’ Homelessness in Florida. I’m the father of two very successful girls (one a Budget Manager in the U.S. Pentagon) & (one an 0-3 MD in the Department of Navy) - ranging in ages 39 to 45. I know what it’s like to struggle to make ends meet. That’s why I became so fed up watching politicians – take millions in corporate PAC donations and ignore the needs of everyday Americans. I just knew that I had to step up. I've watched vulnerable seniors forced to choose between paying for medications or keeping the lights on. I watched U.S. Veterans sleeping on the streets, in their cars and, in the woods. I have watched hardworking parents who struggled to put food on the table or send their kids to college. I watched caring families torn apart as their loved ones battled addiction. So, I decided to run for office to fight for the people who’ve been left behind. I’ve spent my career solving problems – and now, I’m ready to replace Kristen Arrington in the Florida House of Representatives (HD46) and show her how it’s done. I’m not running for political gain or prestige. I’m running to fight for working families, solve tough problems for our communities, and leave the world a better place for my children and yours. My greatest mission is to create a better world for my kids than the one I grew up in. If you’re a parent, I’m sure you feel the same way. Frankly, I refuse to sit by and do nothing, knowing that the Florida’s super-majority and the Governor of Florida have passed a law banning sleeping in public places that will ultimately result in criminalizing homeless Veterans and have tried to cut the affordable healthcare that so many families rely on. I refuse to sit by and do nothing while hardworking parents struggle to find affordable housing or childcare for their kids. I refuse to sit by and do nothing while the women of Florida worry that one of their most fundamental rights – how and when to have a family – will be stripped from them entirely. Democrats are in the Minority in both the Florida House of Representatives and the Florida Senate. Our race to maintain the Democratic status of this Florida House seat has never been more vital. I will vote to end the filibuster and codify Roe. We can win this race, and I have the background to prove it. I’m the polar opposite of my opponents and represents that change that voters want: I’m not a politician; I understand first-hand the challenges people face, I am a problem solver, and I’m an outsider unafraid to tackle the status quo in Tallahassee.
